5 Jobs and Internships
On-campus job opportunities (many students find campus jobs and work across departments; jobs are typically posted through Handshake)
Jobs for International Students
CPT (after 2 semesters or earlier if CPT is required for micro-internship offered by a course)
OPT (up to 3 years)
Micro-internships (small-scale, course-embedded, paid internship )
Some courses include micro-internship experiences that involve working with a real client. In examples shared, students completed client-facing work, met weekly with the client, and received compensation while completing class projects.
When a micro-internship is required as part of a course, exceptions to CPT apply regarding timing for work authorization processes. This means that international students may be able to participate in micro-internships earlier than the standard 2-semester requirement for CPT eligibility, but they should consult with the program director and the international student office to understand the specific requirements and timelines for work authorization.

12 MSDM Students’ Portfolio Websites
Here are some examples of student portfolio websites that showcase their skills, projects, and experiences in digital marketing and marketing analytics. These portfolios can serve as inspiration for current students who are building their own portfolios to demonstrate their competencies to potential employers.
These examples highlight the diversity of approaches students can take in presenting their work, including the use of multimedia, case studies, and personal branding to create a compelling narrative about their professional journey and expertise in the field.
All portfolios were created as part of class project in IBM 6530 (Marketing Analytics), where they learned how to create a website using Quarto Markdown, R, and GitHub Pages. The course provided them with the technical skills to build a professional online presence that effectively communicates their capabilities and achievements in digital marketing and marketing analytics.
- Students were encouraged to use all the projects they had completed in the program, including those from other courses up to the second spring semester, to create a comprehensive portfolio that reflects their learning and growth throughout the MSDM program.

14 Frequently Asked Questions
14.1 Does the offical MSDM website has FAQs for current students?
Yes, the official MSDM website has a Frequently Asked Questions on the Official MSDM Website section that includes FAQs for current students.
14.2 Can I take my first summer semester off since there are no required courses?
Technically, you can take the first summer semester off since there are no required courses. However, it is important to consider the implications of taking a semester off, such as potential delays in graduation and the impact on your academic momentum, and preparation needed for MSDM Culmination Experience Project that will be undertaken in the following semester and on.
Not taking a semester off might be beneficial for maintaining your academic progress, avoid having high workload on your remaining semesters, and preparing for the culminating project.
Also, skipping summer means you risk not having enough elective courses for your curriculum options by the time you are supposed to graduate, due to the limited availability of elective courses–25 students for all elective courses.
It is recommended to consult with your academic advisor to discuss your specific situation and ensure that taking a semester off aligns with your academic and career goals.
